John Shoemaker: Song Samples

Where's The Freedom

(John Shoemaker)
I remember having one of those marathon phone conversations with my good friend Dave. It was one of those many talks we had where we would define and solve the worlds major problems. You know what I'm talking about -- like all the best ideas just come to you in a continuing flow, only later to be forgotten and replaced by the reality of the next looming workday. At any rate, it was during such a conversation that Dave, to emphasize an earth-changing point about I don't know what, exclaimed, "Where's the Freedom? That's what I wanna know!" Needless to say, the sentiment resonated with me.

Lyrics:

It seems to me there’s a great tragedy in a society
Where people gotta give in just to make a livin’
Pushed and pulled, taxed and tolled, tired and old
There’s too few transcendin’, there’s too many pretendin’
Now where’s the freedom, where’s the freedom in that (repeat)

Chorus:
If we turn it around and try something new
We could change our shape and make it through
We gotta turn it around and try something new
If we wanna change our shape and make it through

I just wanna do my part, follow my heart, make life my art
Grow strong like a tree and be a better human bein’
Get up and dance with me, sing some harmony, talk some honesty
We can change the way it’s going just by learnin’ and growin’
Now there’s some freedom, there’s some freedom in that (repeat)

(Repeat chorus to end)
