John Shoemaker: Song Samples

Zaidee's Song

(John Shoemaker)
This is a fun one. This song ended up being about Zaidee, but interestingly, I had initially written it for a previous girlfriend (with a different chorus obviously). Many people think that is a strange thing to do. But for me it is the perfect representation of the evolution of my life partnerships. It is at once a tribute to the past relationship and a homage to the present and future woman in my life. At any rate, it all came together quite well and tends to be a favorite of many. Love songs just never seem to go out of style....

Lyrics:

I knew her long before we ever met
In her I saw the whole universe and every little element
That night beneath the cedar tree – oh I’m rememberin’
We held hands and I felt so free – I wanna feel that way again

So alive and awake, so completely a man
Suddenly like I understand
Launched into space, flying away
That’s how I felt before she went away

Chorus:
Zaidee, Zaidee come back to me
I never knew love could make me feel so free
I’m talking to myself, singing a song
Counting clovers in the grass ‘cuz it won’t be long

Talking hillside, valley, stream – I’ve been taking long walks alone
The sun shines and the old moon beams, lighting my way back home
I sit and watch the birds play and sing – they live in perfect harmony
This lonliness is the strangest thing here beneath this same old cedar tree

I’m so alive and awake, so completely a man
Finally like I understand
Launched into space, I’m flying away
That’s how I feel though she went away

(Repeat chorus then dialogue to end)
