John Shoemaker: Song Samples

Lay Your Troubles Down

(John Shoemaker)
I am so grateful for the help and love I have received from other people in my life. Truly, who would I be, what could I possibly achieve, without the energy of others, past, present and future. As I have struggled with the world, I have often had cause to reflect on the power of human interactions in my life. This song is one such reflection.

Lyrics:

She knows just how to cry
Sometimes she don’t know how she knows or why
Maybe they’re tears of hope for a better day
Maybe they’re for what the years have washed away
So when the lights grow dim
And it gets too dark to see
That’s when I say…

Chorus:
It’s hard to be strong, strong as you want to be
So won’t you lay your troubles down and come on home with me

His calloused hands are kind
Dreams of a peaceful world fill his mind
He rises up and tries to do his part
But Lord knows this society can break a good man’s heart
So when the lights grow dim
And it gets too dark to see
That’s when I say…

(Chorus)

Seeking the divinity within
We were born into this human form again
To face the challenge each and everyday
We have to help each other along the way
So when the lights grow dim
And it gets too dark to see
That’s when I say…

(Repeat chorus to end)
