John Shoemaker: Song Samples

Step

(John Shoemaker)
No doubt a song that was inspired by a usual dose of the evening news, "Step" is a tune that highlights my concerns for the world I see and my hopes for the world I believe we can create.

No matter what we set out to achieve, the simple fact is that we must get there one step at a time. So many great visions are never realized because people get intimidated by their own ideas and never actually take the necessary steps to bring things to fruition. I believe now is the time when the world, down to each person, must begin to take the practical steps towards a greater collective vision for society. Only together can we make it happen; but it is as individuals that we do our own unique part to make the collective whole.

Lyrics:

All the brutal wars and senseless crime from early man to modern time
The rampant disease and poverty mostly results from our selfish greed
There’s millions of poor throughout the land braving brutal times surviving if they can
While we’ve got more billionaires every year, and we build bigger walls – our greediness breeds fear… it breeds fear

Chorus:
But I dream and I pray and I take a little step each day
With little steps you and me can end this insanity
Towards each other, sisters and brothers
How can we leave each other behind

Slums in Europe, Asia, the America’s too -- we could name ‘em off until we all turn blue
We’ll have ‘em tomorrow, got ‘em now, had ‘em yesterday – shantytown on a hillside washed away
But I say all for one and one for all from the barrio to the Taj Mahal
Stop making fists and start lending a hand – we’re one human race, united we’ll stand, we can stand

Chorus:
If we dream and pray and take a little step each day
With little steps you and me can end this insanity
Towards each other, sisters and brothers (repeat three times)
We can’t leave each other behind
